I got the fucker working!

YEESSS!!!

I rang D-Link support who told me where I had been going wrong. Something to do with AOL screen-names.

Anyway, I now have wireless internet access again (and without having to log into AOL's poncy software) which is so much more convenient and tidy than trailing cables about.
